This month, we’re looking at one of the best-known brands that we stock – Sony!
A brief history of Sony!
The company that would one day become Sony had humble beginnings, founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, with a budget of just 190,000 yen. They aimed to “establish an ideal factory that stresses a spirit of freedom and open mindedness that will, through technology, contribute to Japanese culture”.
Through the years, Sony has grown and – in their spirit of challenge to “do what has never been done before” have released countless “Japan’s first” and “world’s first” technologies, as well as iconic products, ranging from the Walkman, Alpha cameras and PlayStation to Trinitron TVs, Xperia smartphones and 1000X noise-cancelling headphones. And the technological developments simply haven’t stopped; from Acoustic Surface Audio TV technology, which uses actuators to turn OLED screens into multi-channel speakers, to the revolutionary Cognitive Processor XR TVs, which reproduces content the way humans see and hear.
As you’d expect from a company that has grown over the years to include Sony Pictures (responsible for blockbuster films such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home”) and Sony Music (the label behind iconic artists such as Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston), Sony’s ability to bring a true cinema experience to your home is simply without peer!
HBH Woolacotts and Sony
