HBH Woolacotts’ University Survival Kit

“Back to School” season is upon us and those of us who’ve been there know all too well that the process of going to university is, at times, a very stressful one. And even though some of us may have tried to go to university twice and dropped out both times (just me? ok) I think between all of us at HBH, we’ve compiled a pretty great collection of staples to help you through your uni journey.

Now, we’re hardly experts on other aspects of uni survival, but what we do know – very well, in fact – are electricals! From tellies for your room in halls to the sandwich toaster that may well become your life saver for dinner times, here’s our list of university budget-friendly items that we think could turn out to be an essential in someone’s university survival kit.

Let’s get the boring stuff out the way first, shall we?

Up first, we have the obvious: cooking appliances. It’s a cliche (but cliches are such for a reason) that many first year students leaving home and going to uni for the first time aren’t overly knowledgeable in the kitchen… nor very keen to be (I can relate). So, we’ve put together a group of small appliances that will easily fit into your allocated cupboard space in halls or housing, but will also be a great way to make sure you’re not always eating toasties for tea… but, of course, there is also a toastie machine here if toasties for tea are your jam… no judgement!

Ninja AF100UK Air Fryer

You’ve all heard the hype around air fryers by now – is there anything they can’t do?! Well… not really. Chips? Air fryer. Chicken nuggets? Air fryer. Any university-staple beige freezer food of your choosing? Air fryer.

Don’t get us wrong, though, air fryers are also a brilliant way to eat fresh, healthy foods easily. Cook fresh meat, vegetables and even dehydrate your favourite fruits to make some dried fruit slices!

Ninja OL550UK SmartLid 11-in-1 Multi-Cooker

Another compact appliance that does it all. This clever machine can do all of this: Pressure Cook, Air Fry, Grill, Bake, Dehydrate, Sear/Sauté, Steam, Slow Cook, Yoghurt, Steam Air Fry and Steam Bake.

Tower T27013 Deep Fill Sandwich Toaster

And, as promised, a holy grail for uni student mealtimes: the toastie maker.

…and to clean up the mess that will no doubt follow the cooking…

Both of these little vacuums are compact and ideal for cleaning up small messes on your kitchen countertops or a quick whizz around the floor (and ideal for crumbs that may happen to find themselves on your desk or in your laptop keyboard… not that I’d know anything about that…)

Now, onto the cool stuff…

Next up, we have the exciting bits. What’s a room in halls without a telly? And even though you may be strapped for space, we’ve got a couple of small solutions!

Visitech 24VESF022 24″ LED Full HD Smart TV
LG 32LQ630B6LA 32″ LED HDR HD Ready Smart TV

Everyone’s different, but we’re pretty sure most people need a way to listen to their favourite music while they’re studying (or partying). So, we added these budget-friendly and compact listening solutions to our survival kit: Sony WHCH510 headphones and Sony SRSXB13 Bluetooth speakers, both of which come in various colours!

We know that the cost of living has got us all cutting costs and saving where we can, which is why we want to help with that and give you a 5% discount code for everything in our University Survival Kit.

All the products we’ve mentioned here (plus a load more) are eligible for the discount and we hope it’ll help a bit towards the cost of moving to university. And even if you’ve just joined us for the quick read, we hope you enjoyed our recommendations!

Good luck to you all joining university in September and those of you going back for your 2nd and final years. You’ve got this!
